雨果耗費心血歷經30年完成的《悲慘世界》一書，1985音樂劇《悲慘世界》問世，在倫敦連續演出27年，在紐約百老匯連續16年，都歷久不衰。
這次音樂劇化成大螢幕電影，由休傑克曼（尚萬強）、羅素克洛（賈維）、安海瑟薇（芳婷）、亞曼達席菲德（珂賽特）等眾星扛起--《悲慘世界》（Les Misérables）。電影螢幕畢竟有超越現場音樂舞台的優勢，在視覺感受上，音樂劇電影《悲》有著遠超過音樂劇舞台的驚人氣勢。
故事，與音樂劇同。曲，也與音樂劇同。不同的是音樂劇電影版將整個時間軸壓縮在2.5個小時，以電影而言，實在有夠長！到中後段不時有觀眾去解決水庫洩洪的問題，除此之外，整個流暢度、角色的飾演完整度，都挺好的。
電影裡的尚萬強，由休傑克曼（Hugh Jackman）飾，從階下囚，到假釋出獄、被主教施予援手、隱姓埋名成為市長，以及在革命的槍林彈雨中，協助救走深愛珂賽特的學生馬里歐，乃至最終辭世與芳婷、眾革命犧牲學生、人民的靈魂，一同高歌「Do You Hear People Sing?」。從頭到尾，我認為最成功的角色就是他，無論演技、唱功，都將尚萬強的內心糾葛，飽滿的呈現。
劇情演繹的相當到位，訴說貧窮老百姓，為了生計四處奔波，只是想掙口溫飽卻處處受貴族壓迫，想洗心革面卻無法翻身的卑微。大時代革命的篇章，都清楚的交待。
關於劇情轉折，這裡也不需要敘述太多，畢竟原來的音樂劇迷已然十分清楚，而想直接看電影的觀眾，就........進戲院去了解吧。
約莫十年前
？看了音樂劇，愛上裡頭的曲，還特別去買了紀念DVD，其中，最愛的就是這首「Do You Hear People Sing?」。
不知怎麼著，當響起首歌，莫名的情緒便湧上來，十年前如此，十年後的今日亦如是。
在電影院裡，當一幕革命學生最後陷入圍困絕境，街頭小流浪兒伽弗洛什（丹尼爾哈托史東飾）--我超喜歡的角色輕聲唱出第一句 Do You Hear People Sing? 時，我已不禁潸然淚下。
或許，不斷鼓勵受協助的孩子/家庭，要滿懷鬥志，為自己的未來不斷前進與戰鬥，至今看到這股強烈的生命力不斷逆流而上，所產生的連結吧。
